Books and Films

Postby bob7475 » Fri Nov 12, 2010 9:07 pm

This is a summary of a D.V.D I saw called THE MIST. Written for the screen and directed by Frank Darkbont, and a story by Stephen King 2007. It is about a small town that a mist comes into, bringing with it supernatural things, and how people survive this in a supermarket. Worth watching till the end, and having a blanket handy, expect the unexpected. Other summaries of books and films would be good.

[b]G'day Ubob,
Thought this movie, currently showing at the cinema, may interest you. It is the story of how, what we now know as Facebook, came about.

Social Network was released 28 October 2010.
Duration : 120 mins.
Starring : Jesse Eisenberg; Justin Timberlake ; Rashida Jones.
Rating : *****
Synopsis :
On a night in 2003, Harvard undergrad and computer programming genius, Mark Zuckerberg sits down at his computer, and heatedly begins working on a new idea. In a fury of blogging and programming, what begins in his dorm room, soon becomes a social network, and a revolution in communication. A mere 6 years and 500 million friends later, Mark Zuckerberg is the youngest billionnaire in history. But for this entrepreneure, success leads to both personal and legal complications.

Social Network sounds good will add it to the list of films to see. Another d.v.d I saw with Justin Timberlake in it, was called ALPHA DOG, about a drug crazed American gang, he acted well. Not sure who directed it but, Sharon Stone and Bruce Willis are cast members too.

I've just finished "Left of Tomorrow" by Wendy J. Lyons (of Victoria) published this year and gained much inspiration from it. :P It reminds me of many of my own experiences, but mostly I think her connection with nature as a healing factor, is one that's dear to my heart. I haven't yet had the pleasure she obviously gains from garndcildren(time I went to bed) ;)

G'day Pats,
You went to bed last night, inspired by Wendy Lyons, so sleep would have been healthy and sound.
Another Sunday is here, leaving a mere six weeks to Christmas, and oh so much to catch up on.

Gosh Glen
I got up @7:30am ready to face the rain, back to bed and slept til noon, half the day gone. I have managed to invite a farmer leasing land next to us to drop in soon. Have never met him since he brought down the most beautiful Hereford cattle to the paddock next door. My dad had to stop sawmilling during the late 1950s, and took up Hereford beef cattle farming close to the Tarkine AREA of far north west Tas, so it's great to see them here next to us.
I do little prep for Xmas except carol singing practice

A nice lie in on a rainy day, can only do you good Pats, so have no worry. So it's gonna be Devonshire Tea at Pat's eh ?, I can already sniff the yummy scones in the oven !!, enjoy the afternoon, hosting your farmer mate. :D 8-)

Isn't that funny Glen! You must be a mind-reader! 8-) Twenty years ago, Frits's idea of his retirement was playing my beautiful grand piano whilst I produced Devonshire teas for tourists passing by on this wonderful Tinderbox Peninsula.I wasn't so happy with that. My ideas for retirement were playing my piano whilst singing, and painting. I didn't want to be tied to the kitchen for a job ;) Today Frits made a good cup of tea for the three of us and brought out some Dutch gefuldecujkes  which our guest declined. He watches his diet too, spends too much time in a car during week days and on tractor weekends.
I should try the scone idea though. 8-) (In previous days I usually had fresh bread in the oven). Frits could have the choice of piano or talking, which he also loves. Was good to meet Alex, because he hasn't met many people in the local area, only a girlfriend of ours who walks early in the morning along the road with their dog.

Geez; playing the piano and crooning !! hey Pats you are indeed a lady with many talents.
must try and make it to Greens country, to catch up with Fritz and you. Marge & I will enjoy your musical company I'm sure.
Our neighbours are a lovely Dutch couple, Heinz and Ackkie (Agnes), Heinz is a retired engineer, and is always helping out, with things I am not able to do, like changing a globe, or things like that, that Marge finds difficult. Chantal's (our daughter)boy friend is also an Aussie born Dutch bloke. He like her is a Lawyer too.
We had a really nice Melbourne day, but right now, it looks like a typical London evening !! the changing face of Melbourne.
:) 8-)
