Why is blood pressure important?

The higher your blood pressure the greater your risk of stroke. Stroke is the second single biggest cause of death in Australia and high blood pressure is the major contributing risk factor for stroke.

High blood pressure is common but is poorly treated and controlled in the community.  We have developed a pilot Blood Pressure Awareness Program to raise awareness about blood pressure and help people reduce their risk of stroke.
