In order to run a blood pressure check station, you will need to register your organization pressure station. It is advised to allocate a staff member who will be the main contact for coordinating the pressure station (the pressure station leader). Current pressure stations include pharmacies, Rotary clubs, YMCA branches, health and community service organizations, workplaces and health professionals interested in raising awareness about blood pressure (BP). What is a BP Check Station? A pressure station is a resourced table which is displayed with Know your numbers materials and a digital BP monitor which, if you are a new participant, will be provided in a resource kit*. The blood pressure check station provides an opportunity for people to stop and check their BP and to receive information about how to keep their BP low and reduce their stroke risk. A pressure station should be supervised by a health professional and supported by trained pharmacy assistants or volunteers such as Rotary members. We understand that high BP should not be treated in isolation. The only way for individuals to know their BP is to have it checked regularly, with a more accurate assessment to be conducted by a doctor. Individuals who are identified as having high BP will be told the only way to accurately test their BP is through their medical professional and that BP may fluctuate throughout the day. The health professional will be provided with a referral letter that they can give to individuals to pass on to their GP. You will receive more information about setting up your station in your resource kit. Terms of participation 1. Agree to return the Omron monitor to the National Stroke Foundation if you no longer wish to participate in Know your numbers. 2. Agree to leave behind (or return to the National Stroke Foundation) the Omron monitor and accompanying Know your numbers resources with the participating organisation/nominated pressure station leader if you leave/position changes. *New Omron monitors are available to new registrants in Queensland only. If you are not in Queensland and require a BP monitor to run your pressure station, please phone 1300 122 268 |
