Firstly you will need to register your organisation as a pressure partner. It is advised to allocate a staff member who will be the main contact for coordinating the pressure station (the pressure station leader).

Current pressure station partners include pharmacies, Rotary clubs, YMCA branches, health and community service organisations and health professionals interested in raising awareness about blood pressure.

We will provide support if you have any questions about how to set up a pressure station.

What is a pressure station?

A pressure station is a resourced table or area in pharmacy, YMCA, shopping centre etc which is displayed with Know your numbers materials and a digital BP monitor which, if you are a new participant, will be provided in a resource kit.

The pressure station provides an opportunity for people to stop and check their BP in their local community and to receive information about how to keep their BP low and reduce their risk of stroke.

A pressure station should be supervised by a health professional (i.e. someone who has been trained to check BP) and supported by trained pharmacy assistants or volunteers such as Rotary members.

We understand that high blood pressure should not be treated in isolation. The only way for individuals to know their blood pressure is to have it checked regularly, with a more accurate assessment to be conducted by a doctor.

Individuals who are identified as having high blood pressure at a pressure station will be told the only way to accurately test their BP is through their medical professional and that BP may fluctuate throughout the day.
