Beat the boat - fun run
Beat the boat - fun run

Congratulations and thank you to all those who participated in Beat the Boat to Help Beat Stroke supported by Trust Foundation. Over 1,000 people raced riverboats along the Yarra River on Sunday 11 March 2007, with nearly 300 hundred triumphantly beating the boat and around 250 supporters on three Melbourne River Cruises boats to cheer on the runners.

They were racing to help raise money for the National Stroke Foundation.

The face of the race, David Lawson, 31, who had a stroke at 19, says that the Beat the Boat race was a great way to encourage people to be fit and healthy and reduce their risk of stroke. David participated in the 3km walk.

Also taking part was former Commonwealth Games athlete and Stawell Gift winner John Dinan, who gave out prizes to the winners on behalf of Trust Foundation where he is Executive General Manager.

Mr Dinan said that Trust Foundation was excited to support the event as unique way of raising money and helping to reduce stroke in Australia.

CEO of National Stroke Foundation, Dr Erin Lalor congratulated the young stroke survivors who took part and called on all Melbournians to make themselves strokesafe.
