file icon Finding ways to help stroke survivors and their familiesnew!
03.09.2007

State Stroke Associations and the National Stroke Foundation have jointly surveyed stroke support groups to find out what stroke survivors say they need and what they are getting.  This first comprehensive report of its kind clearly shows that stroke support groups with limited resources are making an important contribution to the well-being and recovery of survivors but they can only reach a small percentage of people in need. The report also examines Australian and international peer support models.

The current edition has been expanded with new information covering Transient Ischaemic Attack (TIA) assessment and management, and the economic implications of the guidelines. Greater details regarding early management of ischaemic and haemorrhagic stroke are also included in this update. It also includes a consumer rating, identifying aspects of care considered to be critical from a patient perspective that will complement the evidence ratings for each recommendation.
