The Clinical Guidelines for Acute Stroke Management summarise the evidence base for the acute phase of stroke (determined by the expert working party to be the first 7 days of stroke). Evidence based recommendations about stroke care are presented. Where no evidence exists, care recommendations are based on expert clinical opinion. Recommendations are designed to provide guidance about the way care should be delivered for stroke. Where resources may not support the delivery of the recommendations in the guidelines, the development of local protocols that address these issues is recommended.
