2009 - FAST

PDF Print E-mail Enlarge text size Reduce text size

The new look 2009 FAST campaign, which features the FAST test, includes images to help all members of the community immediately recognise the signs of stroke and call 000.

The FAST test is an easy way to remember the most common signs of stroke:

FACE
Check their face. Has their mouth drooped?

ARMS
Can they lift both arms?

SPEECH
Is their speech slurred? Do they understand you?

TIME
Time is critical. If you see any of these signs, call 000 now!

Research by the National Stroke Foundation found that simplifying the FAST test and using images would help make the FAST test more memorable and easily recognisable especially for stroke survivors, children, older people and those with learning difficulties, intellectual disabilities and culturally diverse backgrounds.

This version of the campaign has a stronger call to action, encouraging people to look for the signs of stroke in someone else by asking ‘How do you know if someone’s having a stroke?’

People are asked to ‘Think F.A.S.T., Act FAST. Call 000’ to save the life of anyone displaying any of the warning signs of stroke.

The FAST campaign maintains the recognisable black and yellow wording but the new images provide a vibrant feel while continuing to highlight the importance of acting FAST at the first signs of stroke.
